4,5 / 5 on Google & Tripadvisor ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Drake Divers started with a simple premise: the people who know these waters best should be the ones guiding you through them. Caño Island Biological Reserve sits 20 kilometres off the coast of Drake Bay, across open Pacific water.
Over 15 years in this specific environment, our team has logged thousands of dives across every site in the reserve. We know where manta rays feed by season, which months bring hammerhead schools, and how currents shift conditions from one site to the next.
That knowledge comes from years in the water, in these conditions, in this part of Costa Rica. Not from a manual.
We are based in Agujitas, 5 minutes from the beach. We depart directly from Drake Bay. You step onto the boat and go.
Everything you need for a full day of diving, based in Agujitas. Our dive centre, boat and training pool are set up so your day runs without friction from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave the water.
Our base in Agujitas is where briefings, gear checks and equipment fitting happen before every trip. Open every day, a five-minute walk from the main beach. We handle the logistics so you focus on the dive.
We operate a dedicated dive boat with full tank storage and gear space for your group. We leave directly from Drake Bay, no transfers needed. Caño Island is 40 minutes across open Pacific water from shore.
All Discover Scuba and Open Water course sessions start in the pool. Confined water training gives you time to practice gear use, buoyancy and core skills in a safe environment before your first ocean dive.
Drake Bay sits on the northern edge of the Osa Peninsula – one of the most remote accessible areas of Costa Rica. No paved road connects it to the highway system. You arrive by small aircraft from San José or by boat from Sierpe.
The Osa Peninsula contains 2.5% of the world’s biodiversity in 0.001% of its land area. Caño Island has been a biological reserve since 1978. Corcovado National Park since 1975. That protection is why the marine and terrestrial life here is what it is.
Drake Divers operates from Agujitas, a 5-minute walk from the beach. We handle all equipment preparation and post-dive washing. You show up at the boat.
In our Google reviews, we are one of the highest-rated dive centers in Costa Rica.
Our community highlights our organization, professionalism and the personal touch that makes us unique. connection to this corner of Costa Rica — that’s what makes Drake Divers different.
We had a beautiful snorkeling tour with Drake Divers at Cano Island. They were so organized with the right size fins for 20 people! We had two excellent divers as our guides - Andre (spelling?) and Ashley. No one could believe they could go under for the length of time they did! It seemed like 5 minutes! And they pointed out beautiful fish, sea turtles and more! If you’re in the Drake Bay Area on the Osa Peninsula, make sure to contact them for an unforgettable experience! We enjoyed snorkeling with our excellent guide Andrés and shared a good meal on Isla de Caño. Great dive spots and great guides (Angello & Wilson). Nice lunch at a beautiful crystal clear water beach (Playa Josecito) after the second dive. Huge devil rays (4-5 m wingspan) at Bajo del Diablo passing by in only 1-2 m distance, amazing! Many green sea turtles and whitetip reef sharks. Before the start of the first dive some equipment was missing but as per Costa Ricanian „Pura Vida!“ another scuba diving operator helped out and everything was OK again.
Yes. Drake Divers holds PADI Dive Resort certification. All instructors and divemasters are PADI-certified, and we offer PADI courses from Open Water Diver through Divemaster. Not every operator in Drake Bay holds this status — it requires meeting verified standards in instructor qualifications, equipment and safety protocols.
We maintain a maximum ratio of 6 divers per guide on all dive trips. This applies to both guided dives for certified divers and Discover Scuba experiences — no exceptions. Smaller groups mean more direct supervision and better encounters with marine life.
Yes. Our entire team is fully bilingual in Spanish and English. All briefings, safety instructions and dive debriefs are available in both languages. No language barrier at any point of your experience.
Drake Divers is certified by the Instituto Costarricense de Turismo (ICT). This certification is required to legally operate tours inside protected areas of Costa Rica, including Caño Island Biological Reserve and Corcovado National Park.
We are based in Agujitas, the main village of Drake Bay, on the Osa Peninsula. Our dive center is a short walk from the beach. We depart directly from Drake Bay — no transfers from Sierpe, no wasted morning. Caño Island is 40 minutes away by boat.
None, for Discover Scuba Diving — no prior experience required. For guided dives at the reef sites, a valid Open Water certification or equivalent is needed. We run experiences for all levels, from complete beginners to advanced divers looking for multiple tanks.
Caño Island is diveable year-round. The dry season (December–April) brings calmer seas and stronger visibility. The green season (May–November) brings humpback whale migrations, manta ray aggregations and higher marine activity overall. Both seasons produce exceptional dives.
Drake Bay is accessible by small aircraft from San José (30 min to Palmar Sur or Drake airstrip) or by boat from Sierpe (1.5 hours down the Río Sierpe). Once in Agujitas, our dive center is a short walk from the main beach. We can help with logistics if needed — just ask when you book.
Call or message us directly. Talk to one of our local instructors. We’ll listen to you and help you choose the best diving or snorkeling experience for your level.
